IEEPA Tariffs End, Temporary 10% Duty Introduced: What Importers Need to Know

As of February 24, 2026, the U.S. import duty landscape has shifted again. The additional tariffs imposed under the International Emergency Economic Powers Act (IEEPA) are no longer in effect. In their place, under Section 122, which is often referred to as a global tariff, the U.S. government has introduced a temporary 10% ad valorem duty on imports from all countries, effective for 150 days.

This 10% duty is a uniform measure applying broadly unless specific exemptions apply. For instance, goods that qualify under the USMCA are exempt. However, while IEEPA duties were often above 10%, they also included more exemptions. Under this new Section 122 duty, exemptions are fewer, so some importers who previously paid nothing may now face a flat 10% duty. It's crucial to reassess your exposure under this broader application.

In short, IEEPA tariffs have ended. A 10% temporary duty is here for 150 days.
